ABOUT

One of the most popular varieties of Parsley well-known for its strong flavour, the Comun 3 is extremely versatile, with leaves able to be used dry or fresh in many recipes. It is well-suited for pot growing and attracts a variety of beneficial insects that will keep your food garden healthy.

SOWING & PLANTING

Soil Type: Parsley grows best in loamy, well drained soil.

🌱 ☀️Sunlight: Parsley herbs receive six to eight hours of direct sunlight everyday. If growing indoors, it is advised to place in a south-facing window.

Indoors:

Spring through to early fall are the optimum periods to sow your seeds. Sow 1cm deep and thinly cover with soil, keeping the seeds at least 5cm apart. Ensure the pot used has sufficient drainage holes so it does not get waterlogged.

🌱 Let the herb sow for 14 to 21 days before moving outdoors or to a bigger pot

💚 Care tip: Water the plant around 2-3 hours before you move it. It is recommended to water the soil around the plant once transplanted to allow the herb to settle. This allows for a smoother transition into the soil and outdoors also reduces the stress on the herb.

Outdoors:

Place in a partially shaded area and sow 1cm deep. If you are  planning to directly transplant it into the ground, it is recommended to carefully untangle the roots before planting.

Parsley grows well in pots or sown directly into the ground, so do whatever you feel most comfortable with. The herb thrives when getting around 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day, so it is best to place it on a windowsill where it will have access to full sun exposure.

GROWING

💧 Water deeply once a week

Indoors:

To maintain productivity, remove any flowers that begin to bloom and cut any smaller, yellow shoots developing on the outskirts.

Outdoors:

Place in a partially shaded area to allow for full sun exposure. Be aware of fungus that may begin to develop. This will present itself as brown spots on the leaves of your parsley. If this disease occurs, it is best to destroy that plant and sow fresh seeds.

HARVESTING

Parsley should be ready to harvest in around 90 days. You can opt to carefully pick off individual leaves, or you can cut the stems. If you choose to cut the plant ensure you do so from ground level, to include the stems, and not just the leaves.

💚 Care tip: Ensure you are using appropriate garden tools to ensure no damage is done to the plant when harvesting.

PRESERVING

One of the best ways to preserve parsley is to trim the ends of the stems and place in a jar of water. Ensure only the stems are submerged. Cover with a small plastic bag and keep in the fridge.  It is best to change the water every few days. Other preserving methods include storing in oil and freezing.

HEALTH BENEFITS

Parsley is high in Vitamins A, C and K which are great for boosting your immune system, heart and bone health. It is also very low in calories and full of antioxidant qualities.
